Ingredients

Dough and pizza base
  • 1 lb pizza dough Store-bought or homemade.
  • 0.5 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup pepperoni or toppings of choice Use pepperoni or your favorite toppings.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

Equipment

  • 1 Dutch oven

Method

Assemble and cook
  1. Brush the bottom of the Dutch oven with olive oil.
  2. Stretch the pizza dough to fit the bottom of the Dutch oven, pressing it evenly across the base.
  3. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough.
  4. Top with shredded mozzarella and your desired toppings, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  5. Cover the Dutch oven and cook over medium-low heat (or over coals) for 20–25 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted, watching for bubbling as a visual cue.
  6. Check occasionally to prevent burning on the bottom, looking for deep-golden edges rather than dark spots.
  7. Slice and serve warm directly from the Dutch oven.

Notes

For the crispiest base, keep the heat at medium-low so the bottom browns before the cheese over-melts. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in a covered skillet over low heat until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended for best crust texture. Dietary swap: use gluten-free pizza dough if you want a gluten-free version.
