Ingredients

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1.5 cup frozen pitted cherries
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 0.25 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • 1 stand mixer

Method

Blend the smoothie
  1. Add the unsweetened almond milk to the blender first, then add the frozen pitted cherries, frozen banana, and plain Greek yogurt.
  2. Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract to the blender.
  3. Blend on high for 45–60 seconds until completely smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.
  4. If the mixture is too thick to blend easily, add a splash more unsweetened almond milk and blend again until smooth.
  5. Pour into a glass and serve immediately for the best texture.
  6. Top with a few extra frozen pitted cherries or a dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder if desired.

Notes

For the thickest milkshake-style texture, use very cold frozen fruit and blend long enough to fully break down cherry pieces; if you don’t have enough liquid to get the blender moving, add a little more unsweetened almond milk as needed. Store leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake or blend again briefly before drinking. Freeze not recommended because the texture can become icy after thawing. For a dairy-free swap, use coconut-based Greek-style yogurt in place of plain Greek yogurt to keep it creamy.
